Aaron breaks new ground in his newest work in the My New Beginning series, Homage to Josquin. This new work is for two flutes, piano, electric bass and drums. It is a powerful work inspired by the music of the late 15th - early 16th century master Josquin des Prés. Both flute parts are treated equally, as in a Baroque trio sonata and highlight the flute's melodic and vocal qualities as well as its dramatic qualities. Combined with a symphonic piano part and a rock rhythm section, the work transcends any specific category of music. This piece would steal the show in any chamber music program. Homage to Josquin was recently a semi-finalist in the American Prize 2016 Chamber Music Competition and was awarded an Honorable Mention.
For all Early Music group directors, Homage to Josquin could be a very interesting addition to a program of Josquin's works, especially as we approach the 500th anniversary of Josquin's passing (1521) in the year 2021.
