Popcorn Blues for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon

I thought of the title "Popcorn Blues" from the theme, which reminded me of the sound of popcorn popping. Popcorn Blues is a variation of the classic 12-bar blues form.  After the theme is played, each instrument in the Quartet has a solo, accompanied by the rest of the ensemble. The solos and accompaniments have different personalities and textures, adding to the variety in the work. After the flute solo, there is a short coda to bring the work to a close.

Popcorn Blues was a semi-finalist in the 2021-2022 American Prize in Chamber Music Composition.

Popcorn Blues was recorded by the flutist Iwona Glinka and the Arundos Trio on her album entitled "Four Minutes" (2019 - Phasma Music #012 (Distributed by Naxos.))
