Trio of Jade for Tuba, Bass Viol (or Cello) and Piano

Trio of Jade was written for a special trio for a concert on May 7, 2023 by Composers Concordance in New York as part of the 11th Annual CompCord Festival entitled "What's in a Name?."  This particular trio was composed of performers whose first names start with the letter "J", Jay Rozen (tuba), Jay Elfenbein (electric bass viol) and Jai Jeffryes (piano.)

When writing Trio of Jade, I was looking at the Jade stone, which in its raw state the outside of the stone is very rough and jagged, while in its polished and finished state it is very smooth and sensual. Similarly, Trio of Jade has beginning and ending (outer) sections that have jagged melodic and rhythmic lines surrounding an inner section that has flowing, lyrical melodies and rhythms.
